Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will there be cell service?
Once up at Battle Creek, cell service will be infrequent. Don't worry - incase of emergency , we can get to service quickly. If you need to access cell service during the week, we can accommodate you. We do not have wifi. We consider visits to the ranch to be a great time to unplug from our devices.
  • Do I need to be an experienced rider to take part in a Cattle Drive?
No! Guests of all experience levels are welcome. However, we encourage you to consider a few riding lessons before your trip to Montana, especially if you are a complete beginner, as they will allow you to be more effective on your horse.
  • What will the weather be like?
We like to say that if you don't like the weather in Montana, wait five minutes. While our August weather is usually sunny and beautiful, the weather can change dramatically and often. Layering clothes is always a good idea out here, and we tell our guests to make sure they bring warm socks, a rain coat, and a warm sweater at the minimum.
  • Can you accommodate special dietary needs?
We can happily accommodate most needs. We do need to know ahead of your stay please.
  • How long will I be in the saddle each day?
It varies each day. Be assured, you will get in plenty of riding. If you ever feel that you don't want to ride, that is not a problem. You can relax in the lodge or take part in another ranch activity if you like.
  • Will we be able to shower?
Yes. Each cabin has a shower and a bathroom.
  • Will we have to purchase hats, clothing and gear that is needed on a cattle drive?
Yes, but supplies are limited in Townsend. We recommend bringing as much with you as you can.
  • Are there laundry facilities available?
    No.
  • If I drive instead of fly, is there somewhere to leave my vehicle?
Yes. Please contact us in advance to make arrangements.
  • Can I pay with a credit card?
Yes. We accept all major credit cards except Discover.
  • How many riders per wrangler/group?
We divide guests into groups of 4-6 people per wrangler. We try to group people according to riding ability.
  • I am coming with a group. Will I be able to ride with them?
Usually. It will depend on the size of your group and riding abilities.
  • Will I need a fishing license?
If you would like to fish, you can purchase a 2 day license here. Be sure to bring your ID.
  • Should I tip the staff?
Our staff work very hard to ensure that you have an excellent experience. Tipping your personal wrangler and any additional staff is always appreciated.
